17 Acres of pristine wildflower meadows
Wildflower meadow are a critical habitat supporting wide variety of insects and the birds, dragonfly's and bats that prey on them. The seed are also a crucial source of food for many birds including Goldfinch and Siskin. A 'charm' of goldfinches numbers a few hundred form on Hogchester each summer in late July feasting on the abundant knapweed.
Mown paths allow visitor to walk through the heart of each meadow experiencing the different tapestry of flower and insect. Wildflower meadows can be found in two locations at the opposite ends of the farm (see map below)
The main car park is situated within the famous wildflower meadows featured in Sir David Attenborough's 'wild isles' series with stunning views down to Charmouth and the Jurassic coast (photo above).
The second meadow features the labyrinth. A reflective beguiling walk that takes you to the heart of the meadow with views across the Dorset ANOB towards golden cap. This meadow can be accessed by the Charmouth round signed posted to Wood Farm with walk on access using the lane by Charmouth Cemetery.
The wild flower seed from Hogchester meadow is harvested for the establishment of new meadows across West Dorset in partnership with Dorset Wildlife Trust.
